About Us
Launched in 2022 by a coalition of 14 local community organizations, ProX began as a pilot to create a shared front door for summer internships and client-connected projects. With support from the DeBruce Foundation and the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, this community-driven effort has grown into Real World Initiatives—a formally established 501(c)(3) affiliate that ensures Kansas City students will continue to access high-quality, real-world learning experiences for years to come.
ProX expands equitable access to paid, career-connected learning experiences that help high school students build skills, confidence, and professional connections. More than an internship placement, ProX provides a structured, five-week experience that combines meaningful workplace learning, professional development, individualized coaching, and ongoing support for students and employers.
For employers, ProX offers a supported approach to engaging emerging talent. Through clear expectations, practical resources, and dedicated coaching support, we help employers confidently welcome high school interns into their workplaces, identify meaningful projects, and create experiences that benefit both students and their organizations.
Every ProX internship is designed to be intentional, developmental, skill-focused, mutually beneficial, and supported by providing students opportunities to explore careers, contribute meaningful work, and grow in professional environments.
When employers provide meaningful opportunities for students to contribute their talents, ideas, and perspectives, they gain fresh insights and valuable contributions while helping young people recognize their strengths and build confidence.
Mission
ProX expands equitable access to paid career-connected learning by connecting high school students with local employers, to build the skills, confidence, and relationships that strengthen pathways to opportunity and Kansas City's future workforce.
A future where every high school student can explore career possibilities, build meaningful connections, and confidently pursue their next steps in a region where employers invest in emerging talent.
Vision
Work-Ready Skill Development
We equip ProX interns with the work-ready skills and mindsets they need to thrive not just during their internship, but long after it ends.
Through our coaching model and weekly professional development sessions, interns practice the habits that matter most in today’s workplace: showing up with professionalism, communicating clearly, collaborating with others, solving problems, managing time, and learning from feedback.
This combination of hands-on experience, coaching, and skill-building helps interns contribute meaningful work, strengthen their confidence, and build the foundation they need for the future of work.
